The Akathist to the Dove of Spring

From https://deanic.com/prayers-and-rites/the-akathist-prayer-to-the-dove-of-spring/

This Akathist (hymn) was inspired by the Orthodox Christian Akathist to the Holy Theotokos (Godbearer). It may be chanted on 1 Columbina, the second day of Eastre. The Akathist to the Dove of Spring consists of seven stanzas of seven verses each. It is interspersed with scripture readings and the Hail Kora mantra prayer.

Eastre / Eostre / Ostara Scriptures part II

From https://deanic.com/2017/04/13/eastre-scriptures-ii/

Angels depicted by Sulamith Wulfing

9) And when the time was at hand, two of the Janati descended, one on either side of Her, and She went with them into Heaven.

12) And thus began Her dear and glorious reign. And for the children of Heaven, Her very Presence was the completion of their joy. 13) And She poured forth Her Grace and Blessing from Her hands upon them and upon the Earth. And Her Grace and Blessing were as rays of Perfect Light which penetrate the heart and flood the soul.

It is said, in Kabbalistic and Gnostic Traditions, that Sophia/Shekinah continuously (Eternally) Ascends and Descends. This is how we understand the Eternal Now. It is the same in the Myth of Kore/Persephone, each year, She descends and ascends.

This idea, of things happening in the Eternal Now, is a very hard concept for us to grasp while we are living in the Realm of Time.

Those who have had NDE’s often report that there is no time or space in the spiritual world, which we call Avala, the Outer Realm of Perfection. They will state that their time on Earth seems to have happened in the blink of an eye.

“When you die, everything stops and you enter eternity. It is like finally getting to the nanosecond, where time stops. Like a watch, our body stops at that time. Yet our spirit and consciousness continue to live on in a dimension beyond sequential time. We go beyond nanoseconds into a space-time measurement we cannot know here on earth. It is the eternal now, where past, present, and future are all merged into one. Eternity is the present, the now that never ends.” (Dr. Gerard Landryhttp://www.near-death.com/science/research/time.html#a04.

This is why, when we experience each holy day in our calendar, we are truly experiencing that Eternal Moment out of time. We can truly say that the Holy Daughter is Eternally Ascending and Descending, because that is the Nature of Eternity.

And so, at the same time that the Holy Daughter is Immanent with us as the World Soul; She is simultaneously in the Realm of Perfection of Fullness with the Children of Heaven

(Children of the Earth and Heaven are capitalized not because the Children are Divine, but because Children of the Earth/Heaven is a proper title for humanity.)

I have explained in the past that liturgy is a spiritually magickal act. That act serves to unite Heaven and Earth in the meeting place of the altar, shrine, chapel or temple where it is being served.

When we are at liturgy, we are facing the Presence of Heaven. The Veil is barely there. It is said that angels are present. (My mother saw an angel walk across the altar when she was 14). Certainly, the Janati are present.

4) And She showed them how to offer Sacrifice to the Mother of All things.

From our scriptures, we see that it pleases Our Lady when we offer Sacrifice, just as did the faithful Jewish women of old. (Jer. 44: 17). And so we have both, the Rite of Sacrifice that we serve on the Full Moons and the Great Liturgy which we serve on a Trinity Day (Foradi, Sunnadi or Lunadi: Sat./Sun./Mon).

During the liturgy, Our Lady comes to us, from the East, just beyond the Veil of Time. We bow our heads as She enters and stands before us.

Thus continues the main portion of the Communion Rite:

16) And She entered the great Temple of Heaven, where the spirits of the Earth’s children were gathered at the Sacrifice, even as their souls were gathered upon the Earth.

(This verse has been slightly adapted in the Janite liturgy. It reads:  And She entered the Great Temple of Heaven where the Seven Janati were gathered at the Sacrifice, even as the Children of Dea were gathered upon the Earth.)

And so, She has entered the Great Temple before us! Here we are, in the Presence of the Holy Daughter! We bow in reverence before Her!

And She stood at the Great Altar and took up a wheaten loaf and spoke, saying: 18) Like to the corn, My Soul was cut down by the scythe of darkness and like to the corn did it rise anew. 19) For I am the ear of corn that is reaped in silence.

And She said: Like to the grain was my Soul broken (Janite:shattered) between the stones of death (Janite: Fate). And saying thus, She broke the Bread between Her hands.

And further:

22) And She poured out Her Spirit from Her hands into a Great Chalice and Her Spirit lay as wine within the Chalice.

23) And She said: Even as you have offered Me bread in sacrifice, so I give to you the Bread of My  Body (Soul in the Janite); and as you have poured out libations of wine to Me, so I pour out the Eternal Libation of My Eternal Spirit.

And so, because we offer to Her bread and wine during the Rite of Sacrifice, She, in turn, gives us the most heavenly, most exquisite gifts of Her Soul and Spirit.

This most radiant communion rite is seemingly inspired from the Mythos of Kore/Persephone and I would not be surprised if the communion rite of the Eluesinian Mysteries might not have been so very different.

During liturgy, we are truly in Her Heavenly Presence. The priestess is but Her channel through which She, from the Heavenly Altar, sends Her Graces and Energies and pours them into the wine and bread in order to gift us and to nourish us.

As the priestess says when distributing the Bread: May the Soul of Our Lady nourish your soul and the Wine: May the Spirit of Our Lady nourish your spirit

Thus, the Eastre Scriptures teach us how to worship Our Lady through both the Rite of Sacrifice and the Great Liturgy. They teach us that She is right there with us; She is Present with us as Our High Priestess; She Who stands before the Heavenly Altar, performing the Sacrifice in union with and through Her handmaid.

The Holy Daughter has three titles in scripture: Princess, Daughter of Wisdom and Priestess. All three are visible in the Eastre scriptures as she, the Princess of the World has become the Princess of heaven; She, as the Daughter of Wisdom teaches us many things and She, as the High Priestess leads us in Sacrifice

She is both Immanent, as the World Soul and Transcendent, as the High Priestess in Heaven. She is the Perfect Bridge between Heaven and Earth as She leads us back to Our Heavenly Mother and our True Home.

Kore

And as She walked, the children of the Earth threw blossoms before Her and though Her feet rested on them, yet, they were not bruised. 2) And She reigned over all the Earth, bringing all Nature back to life and all life back to the true law and rhythm of Nature.  And the world knew Her as its Princess. 3) And the children of the Earth were filled with love for Her, and gathered about Her with tears of joy, touching Her robes and giving themselves to Her in their hearts. The Mythos of the Divine Maid Chapter VII, 1-3 SMR edition

These passages beautifully illustrate the Janite concept of the Holy Daughter as the World Soul. In the above passage, the children of the Earth are able to see and touch the Divine Princess. But, we must remember that these passages are not meant to be taken literally. They are part of a description of a Cosmic Drama which takes place out of time.

Sophia by Pamela Matthews

For Janites, the Princess of the World, as the World Soul, truly revives and sustains all of Nature. And while She did not ‘walk’ among us, there are those who have had visions of Her, especially in connection with Nature. Here are but a few, some I have mentioned in the past:

~

Among several Russian mystics who had visions of Sophia, Vladimir Solovyov had three, the first when he was only 9 years old. She appeared as a beautiful woman–“an image so radiant and powerful that he would come to pursue its meaning throughout his adult life.” (Kristi A. Groberg, “The Eternal Feminine: Vladimir Solov’ev’sVisions Of Sophia,” in Alexandria Journal #1, ed. David Fideler, 77).

His second vision:

I said to her: O, blossom of a deity!
You’re here, I sense it–why haven’t you revealed
Yourself to my eyes since childhood years?

And no sooner had I thought this prayer
Than everything was filled with a golden azure,
And before me she shined once more–
But only her face–it alone. . . .

I said to her: your face has appeared,
But I want to have a look at all of you. . . .

“Be in Egypt!” a voice within me sounded.
 (Groberg, “Eternal Feminine,” 81)

From his third vision of Sophia he wrote:

And in the purple of the heaven’s splendor,
With eyes filled with an azure fire,
You looked like the first radiance
Of a universal and creative day. . . .

I saw everything, and everything was one thing only–
A single image of female beauty. . .
The infinite fit within its dimensions:
Before me, in me–were you alone.

O, radiant woman! In you I am not deceived:
In the desert I saw all of you. . .
Those roses will not wither in my soul wherever life’s wave may speed.

This third vision changed him, forever.

Let it be known: today the Eternal Feminine In an incorruptible body is descending to Earth. In the unfading light of the new goddess Heaven has become one with the deeps.

Vladimir Solovyov~

Russian theologian and mystic, Sergei Bulgakov had a vision of Sophia within the context of Creation. He saw Her in the mountains and in Nature.

Therefore Sophia is twofold, at once Divine and creaturely—above and before creation and “in” creation. The world is created in Sophia and Sophia, at the same time, is in the world, throughout it, in the form of divine energies and spiritual beings, as its boundary. Hence creation is, as it were, “the separation of Sophia’s potentiality from her actuality.” In the world, Sophia is actualized—as the earth’s eros for heaven, all creation “longing for liberation from the bondage of corruption, for the radiance of Sophianic light, for beauty and transfiguration.” http://ivashek.com/en/texts/554-sophia-the-wisdom-of-god.

Through-out Her pre-Christian and post-Christian ‘history’, Sophia is associated with Creation and entering Creation (She is immanent with us as the World Soul.)  She has been known as “Perfect Nature”.  But, as with the Divine Feminine in general, She has long been demoted from Her original status.

  1. Her divine status, evident from her speeches, does not easily fit into monotheism. (Meaning Patriarchal monotheism. PL.)
  2. Her teachings are rooted in life, not in obedience to rules, gods or priests; these teachings demand individual integrity and justice in the marketplace and royal court, and are achieved through clear perception and devotion to her, Wisdom, and by abandoning “marketplace consciousness”–giving up the quest for gold & possessions.
  3. She is associated with the natural order and meaning of creation, rather than the revelation and salvation of monotheistic religions. Sophia had many of the characteristics of earlier wisdom goddesses who carry the banner of the supremacy, primacy, and justice of the natural order of the cosmos rather than the capricious brutal rule of man whose focus is on profit and domination.
  4. Her gender is unacceptable in religions that deify only the male. The strenuous effort of Hebrew prophets to turn their people away from the worship of popular local deities to an ever-stricter monotheism admitted no divine reality save one demanding a wifeless male god.

http://www.sophiaandthedragon.com/sophia/soul_of_world.htm

“Male-oriented spiritual paths generally lead the seeker to leave the world, to abandon its call to power and prestige.  But women are already outside the power structure.  For woman then the “direction” of the spiritual path is not to leave the world, but to enter it.” http://www.sophiastemple.com/goddess-sophia/ (Note: Just as the Divine Sophia enters the World as its Soul).

Sophia is seen as being expressed in all creation and the natural world.

The Holy Daughter, in the Form of Sophia, is re-emerging in this world. She is slowly, but surely, being freed of Patriarchal chains. She is the Soul of Nature and She shares Her Soul with us.

With every flower we see sprouting to greet the Spring Sun; with each baby leaf budding upon the branch; with each soft breeze that caresses our cheek, there is the Presence of the Holy Daughter in the Form of Sophia; She Who brings all of Her Creation back to life. And, through Her words of Wisdom, She speaks to us who are gathered before Her. Through the sharing of Her Soul, we are able to ‘touch Her robes’.

“I love you. Love me. I am Sophia.”

Happy and Blessed Eastre / Ostara (on Hiatus / Vernal Equinox First Day of Spring / March 20)

Extracts from https://deanic.com/2017/03/21/bits-and-pieces-eastre-and-the-janatie/

~

Happy and Blessed Eastre, everyone!

Happy First Day of Spring.

The Awakening – Jonathon Earl Bowser

Eastre is actually an ancient word for Spring. This is the source of the name of the Goddess, Ostara/ Eostra, Eostre, Eastra, etc. She was the Great Mother Goddess of the Saxon people in Northern Europe. This was first asserted by the Christian monk, Venerable Bede  who lived from 632-735.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/easter1.htm

~

The following Deanic Traditions are now observing the Vernal Equinox rather than Hiatus: The Lucienne Tradition, the Pantheacraft Tradition and the Janite Tradition.

Eastre, the celebration of the Holy Daughter as the Holy Soul of the World/Cosmos. Several of us were remarking on how ‘right’ it felt. It was truly joyful and joy-filled. Though my day began with a frigid 11 degrees F (- 11.6 Celsius) with a foot (.3 meters) of snow on the ground,  by afternoon, it was warm and sunny and the snow was melting away.

When I got up this morning and for the first time in my life, experienced the Divine Feminine Eastre on the Vernal Equinox, the first Day of Spring, it felt exhilarating and oh, so very, very right. This feast day has Divine Feminine origins. How fitting it is to keep the holy ancient Divine Feminine feast day on the actual vernal equinox! It feels so mystical and magickal.

My feminine intuition and that of others in the JOP understood that Eastre should be on the first day of Spring.

Ostara, Eástre seems therefore to have been the divinity of the radiant dawn, of upspringing light, a spectacle that brings joy and blessing,…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%92ostre

I love: Our Lady of Up-springing Light. Our Lady of the Dawn. Our Holy World Soul.

The Feast of Eastre, like the liturgy, like all our feasts of the Sacred Cosmic Drama, falls ‘eternally, out of time’ and so it is entirely appropriate that not only is the ancient feast of Eastre celebrated on the vernal equinox in the Janite and Pantheacraft Traditions, but also that this, the most holiest, sacred time of the year, falls ‘out of time’, reflecting the fact that this is an Eternally, on going Cosmic Drama because…. until every last one of our souls has been assumed unto Our Lady, the Celestial Mother, High Queen of Heaven, the Holy Daughter will always, always be with us. She will always be an intimate part of us and us of Her because, thanks to Her Sacrifice, we share the same soul.

My liturgical scripture reading for tonight was The Mythos of the Divine Maid, Chapter VII. So beautiful. So truly beautiful. But during my celebration of the Janite liturgy, where the Bread represents Soul and not Body, I realized that for Janites, the following verses might read:

6: But I shall unite you all who love Me in one great Soul. 7) The highest and the lowest, the living and the dead, those who falter at the door and those who have climbed the highest tower, all shall be one in My Soul, which I have given to the world and all shall be nourished by my Spirit.

This, is exactly what Janites believe. And in liturgy, the white wine is transmuted into Her Spirit and the bread is transmuted into Her Soul.

All praise the Most Holy Daughter, Divine Maid (Kora). Like the Shekinah, like Sophia, You have suffered a Divine Shattering so that you may share Your Soul with all Your children. Thank you for making us One with You. Blessed are You, Dea Filia!

Beautiful Song For Spring by Celtic Woman

Beautiful Song For Spring by Celtic Woman

Dear friends,

I was listening to Celtic Woman earlier and found this song of theirs I had not previously heard before, and it made me think of the Eastre cycle, spring time, the Daughter as Princess of the World, Exaltation Day, Lady Graca and Maia, so it’s perfect for all things Spring!

Their music is so beautiful and I think this is my new favourite song of theirs. I just wish I’d heard it at the start of the Eastre cycle instead of now when it’s over!

You can listen to it here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39-tQMYP8XU
and I will paste the lyrics below.

The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun

High is the moon tonight
Hiding it’s guiding light, high
Heaven and earth do sleep, still in the dark so deep
I will the darkness sweep

I will the moon to flight, I will the heaven’s bright
I will the earth to light
Open your eyes with me, see paradise with me
Awake and arise with me

I am the dawn, I’m the new day begun
I bring you the morning, I bring you the sun
I hold back the night and I open the skies
I give light to the world, I give sight to your eyes
From the first of all time, until time is undone
Forever and ever and ever and ever
And I am the dawn and the sky and the sun
I am one with the one and I am the dawn

I am the sky and the dawn and the sun
I am the sky and the new day begun
I am the sky and the dawn and the sun

What is a sun pillar, or light pillar?

What is a sun pillar, or light pillar?

By Deborah Byrd in
FAQS | EARTH on Mar 22, 2016

http://earthsky.org/earth/what-is-a-sun-pillar
Sun pillars, or light pillars, are shafts of light extending from the sun or other bright light source. They’re caused by ice crystals drifting in Earth’s air.

EarthSky Facebook friends occasionally post beautiful photos of sun pillars, or light pillars. For example, there was a beautiful one seen from the U.S. West Coast on March 20, 2016 … a beautiful prelude to the first full night of spring. Sun pillars are vertical shafts of light that extend upward (or downward) from a bright light source, such as the sun or other bright light low on the horizon. They can be five to 10 degrees tall and sometimes even higher. They might lengthen or brighten as you gaze at them.

They’re beautiful and wondrous. They’re also the source of some UFO reports!

Sun pillars or light pillars are formed by reflection from hexagonal plate-like ice crystals in Earth’s air. These crystals drift through the atmosphere with a horizontal orientation, gently rocking from side to side as they fall. Diagram via University of Illinois.

Sun pillars or light pillars form when sunlight (or another bright light source) reflects off the surfaces of millions of falling ice crystals associated with thin, high-level clouds, for example, cirrostratus clouds. The ice crystals have roughly horizontal faces. They are falling through Earth’s atmosphere, rocking slightly from side to side.

When is the best time to see a sun pillar or light pillar? You’ll most often see sun pillars when the sun is low in the western sky before sunset, or low in the east just after the breaking of dawn. You might even see a sun pillar when the sun is below the horizon. Light pillars can be seen at any time of night.

Wesley Liikane in Severn Bridge, Ontario captured these light pillars on December 23, 2013

Wesley Liikane in Severn Bridge, Ontario captured these light pillars on December 23, 2013. See more photos by Wesley at Cowboy with a Camera on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/CowboyWithACamera

They’re called sun pillars when the sun helps make them. But this the moon or even streetlights can create this light phenomenon, too, in which case the name light pillar is more appropriate.

These pillars of light often prompt people to report sightings of UFOs. They can sometimes look strange! There are said to be a lot of UFO reports caused by light pillars over Niagara Falls, where the mist from the rush of descending water interacts with the city’s many upward facing spotlights. Light pillars do appear frequently over Niagara Falls, especially during the winter.

As always, the great website Atmospheric Optics is a wonderful place to go and learn more about sun pillars.

Photo credit: EarthSky Facebook friend Kim Smith, taken February 2013. She says “My first ever sun pillar! We don’t often see them here in Walker Creek, Arkansas. I am glad I was out to photograph the sunset today when this occurred.”

Bottom line: Sun pillars, or light pillars, are vertical shafts of light that can sometimes be seen extending upwards or downwards from the sun or other bright light source. They’re caused by light reflection from hexagonal ice crystals drifting in Earth’s atmosphere.

~~~~~~~
http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/reports/wxfacts/Sun-pillar.htm
Sun pillars are seen best within a few minutes of sunrise or sunset. Initially the have about the same colour and width as the sun, but sun pillars will gradually change their colour from orange-white to red-orange. Sun pillars generally fade 20 to 60 minutes after sunset. Under favourable conditions, e.g. icy fog, sun pillars might stretch out up to 30° above the sun, while light streaks of 5° to 10° are most common.
On rare occasions, regarded with awe in more superstitious times, it may occur with part of the parhelic cycle to give the appearance of a cross centred on the Sun. The sun pillar is comparable with the light course, the setting sun produces on a water surface.
She is the Soteria (feminine Greek word for Saviour) of the World.
Great Dove of the World, in Janite thealogy, this title is appropriate for the Holy Daughter. She is the Ruler and Sustainer of the World as well as its Regeneration.
Hausos, Eostre, Ostara, Vesna – Dawn Spring
Hausos, Eostre, Ostara, Vesna – Dawn Spring
Hausos
One of the most important goddesses of reconstructed Proto-Indo-European religion is the personification of dawn as a beautiful young woman. Her name is reconstructed as Hausōs PIE *h2ewsōs- or *hausōs-, an s-stem)…
Derivatives of *h2ewsōs in the historical mythologies of Indo-European peoples include Indian Usas, Greek ‘Hώς (Ēōs), Latin Aurōra, and Baltic Aušra (“dawn”, c.f. Lithuanian Aušrinė). Germanic *Austrōn- is from an extended stem *h2ews-tro-.[1]
The name *h2ewsōs is derived from a root *h2wes / *aues “to shine”,[2] thus translating to “the shining one”. Both the English word east and the Latin auster “south” are from a root cognate adjective *aws-t(e)ro-. Also cognate is aurum “gold”, from *awso-. The name for “spring season”, *wes-r- is also
from the same root. The dawn goddess was also the goddess of spring, involved in the mythology of the Indo-European new year…
Eostre – Ostara
Eostre (Pan-Celtic) [ESS-trah or Y’OSE-tree] Eostre is an Anglo-Saxon Goddess, the one for whom the Ostara Sabbat is named. When the Saxons invaded Britain, they brought this vigorous Goddess with them and she was eventually adopted into the Celtic pantheon. She is seen as spring personified, a Goddess of rebirth, new beginnings, and fertility.
She is only mentioned in De Temporum Ratione written by Anglo – Saxon monk Bede who mentions that during the pagan times the Anglo – Saxons were venerating her in the month named Ēosturmōnaþ for her sake (Eosturmonath, April). He points out, however, that her festival was replaced by the Christian Easter and the pagan customs had already been abandoned in the time he was writing his chronicle  (Bede lived in the 8th century).
In 19th century it was Jacob Grimm who was analysing the name *Ostara (‘Easter’ in Old Germanic) in his book Deutsche Mythologie. He associated it with the chronicles of Bede in spite of some researchers who claimed that the monk has made the cult of  Ēostre up. Grimm defended him and stated there was nothing in his chronicles that would seem improbable. He also pointed out that her cult was so deeply rooted in the Germanic culture that the Christian missionaries were not able to eradicate it and transformed it into the celebrations of Christ’s death and resurrection, keeping the month’s name (German ostermonat, ôstarmânoth). He also suggested that Old German adverb ôstar means ‘movement towards the rising sun’ and compared its forms in the language family (Old Norse: austr, Anglo – Saxon: ēastor, Gothic áustr) with the Latin stem auster hypothesizing that the goddess Austra’s cult had already extincted before the introduction of Christianity. He also showed some features that enabled the adaptation of a new religion into already existing beliefs: dawn as the light growing into power, bonfires lighted for the goddess, sacred water, maidens wearing white, the symbol of egg, sword dances and special kind of pastries.
Some linguists claim that Old English name Ēostre originates from Old German *austrōn meaning dawn, which itself most probably originates from Pra – Indoeuropean stem *aus- ‘to shine’. It implies the resemblance of Germanic Ēostre to Hellenic Eos who was also the goddess of dawn. Ēostre’s name preserved to this day, mostly as the name of Easter but also as in the case of Freyja in the geographical names of such locations as Eastry, Eastrea and Eastrington on the British Isles as well as Austrechild, Austrighysel, Austrovald and Ostrulf in the German speaking countries in the mainland*.
The existence of Ēostre’s cult was itself controversial among the scholars, many of them assumed that it was only Bede’s creation and identified Ēostre with Freyja. However, in 1958 around 150 Romano – Germanic votive inscriptions were discovered near Morken-Harff in Germany, they were all dedicated to matrona Austriahenea. They are datable to approximately 150 – 250 AD, some of them are incomplete, but most of them were in the good enough state to be read and translated. They can be therefore associated with the goddess Ēostre mentioned by Bede and allow to hypotesize that her cult was widespread among the Germanic tribes in the entire Europe.
A cluster of place names in England contain and a variety of English and continental Germanic names include the element*ēoster, an early Old English word reconstructed by linguists and potentially an earlier form of the goddess name Ēostre. These locations include Eastry (Eastrgena, 788 CE) in Kent, Eastrea (Estrey, 966 CE) in Cambridgeshire, and Eastrington (Eastringatun, 959 CE) in East Riding of Yorkshire.
The element *ēoster also appears in the Old English name Easterwine, a name borne by Bede’s monastery abbot in Wearmouth-Jarrow and which appears an additional three times in the Durham Liber Vitae. The name Aestorhild also appears in the Liber Vitae, and is likely the ancestor of the Middle English name Estrild. Various continental Germanic names include the element, including Austrechild, Austrighysel, Austrovald, and Ostrulf.
Over 150 Romano-Germanic votive inscriptions to the matron Austriahenea were discovered in 1958 near Morken-Harff, Germany. Most of these inscriptions are in an incomplete state, yet many are in a complete enough for reasonable clarity of the inscriptions. Some of these inscriptions refer to the Austriates, evidently the name of a social group.
Her creatures: Hares (Eggs and Hot Cross Buns)
The myth of the Moon gazing hare reflects ancient beliefs. Pagans believed that seeing a moon gazing hare would bring growth, re-birth, abundance, new beginnings and good fortune.
The hare is always an attribute of lunar deities.
The hare is known to be sacred to the goddess Eostre and eventually became known as the Easter bunny. In some countries, it is customary to eat hot cross buns around the time of Easter and Christmas; the cross on the bun is said to represent the four quarters of the moon. These buns were originally pagan offerings and were often hung from rafters to scare off evil that lurked in houses.
In Britain hares were once seen as royal animals and it was forbidden to hunt them.
‘Hot Cross Bunns, two a penny buns’ print by Henri Merke and Thomas Rowlandson, 1799
Popular with street sellers, as this print shows, buns made from enriched dough had been popular since Roman times. Traditionally eaten during Lent, during the time of Elizabeth I the London Clerk of Markets forbade the sale of hot cross buns at any other time than Good Friday, Christmas and burials!
To others, the hare symbolized purity, and a single hare was often used to signify the Virgin Mary’s purity. This image of the hare, of course, is in sharp contrast to that of the fertile common rabbit.
http://celticanamcara.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/may-full-moon.html
Pagan myths surrounding mysterious egg-laying hares seem to have stemmed from the similarity between shallow hollows or ‘forms’ used by hares to rest and rear their young, and the nests of birds such as plovers or lapwings – also built at ground level on open grassland or arable farmland.
As such, people would sometimes find eggs in what looked like hare forms – giving rise to the belief that hares laid eggs in spring.
Ostara and the Hare's Egg
I have only ever seen two hares boxing on a train journey, this behaviour occurs during courtship leading to the saying “mad March hare” which is usually unreceptive females fending off amorous males.
The next time you are on a train, look out of the window and search a field and if you see a lump and if it has ears with a black tip, you will definitely be seeing a hare. They are quite sandy in colour.
Vesna
(Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia)
For the Slavs Vesna was the goddess of spring.
As spring symbolized the beginning of a beautiful season, when it bloomed, the nature awoke, all was reborn and renewed life, Vesna had her role as a goddess of youth.
Vesna was one of the sunnier goddesses and was loved by people very much.
It is precisely for this reason in particular the Serbs, had the custom of giving the name Vesna to a female.  People, who gave the name Vesna to a daughter, believed that their daughter would be happy and cheerful just like the goddess Vesna, or, as spring. Her name comes from an Indian word vas that means solar, illuminated and shiny. The word vas is located in the root of the name Vesna.
Scent of Vesna
Scent of Vesna
In particular, Vesna was a model for women. She was beautiful and powerful and around her the wonderful scent spread. In addition to beauty, she is also attributed to the power of the Sun, without which she could not get spring.
http://www.gongoff.com/mythology/vesna-slavic-mythology
In ancient Slav mythology, Vesna was the goddess of spring and fertility. She was in charge of spring time, morning and the birth of everything alive. She is also known as Zhiva, Diva and Devana.
Vesna represents the coming of life after winter hibernation and the return of light after a period of darkness.
Polish Slavs called Vesna Devana with the added “title” of the goddess of fertility and sometimes even the goddess of the hunt. Apart from Vesna and Devana, the same goddess was also known as: Zhivana, Zhiva, Siva, Diva, Deva, Devica, Danica etc. The name Lada is a lot more mysterious than the ones mentioned just now. After Slavs converted to Christianity, Vesna’s domain was split between St. Petka and Virgin Mary.
Vesna by Irene Aurankar
Vesna by Irene Aurankar
Vesna is portrayed as always smiling, beautiful, barefoot, some flowers for clothes. Her hair is long, almost to her knees and various different flowers are in her hair as decoration. Sometimes there’s an apple in her right hand and some grapes in her left hand and sometimes there’s a swallow, the symbol of spring, on her right index finger and a bouquet of flowers in her left hand to symbolize marriage. It was believed that she carried the smell of spring with her wherever she goes and that all spring’s scents are signs of her passing through there.
God’s Fingers at Dawn
God’s Fingers at Dawn
Sorry, this post should have been published a couple of weeks ago.
A couple of weeks ago before the cold weather arrived, the weather forcaster on the breakfast news, was stood on top of a London office block. The view was something like this.
As they explained that this was Crepuscular rays or God’s Fingers.
Crepuscular rays are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the sun is located.
The thought of Dea the supernal Sun’s Holy Fingers reaching down to us on Earth enchanted me.
Here is a mountain scene of Dea’s Fingers, more in harmony with my Father’s family from the mountains.
Canticle of Dea Filia
(from Madrian sources):
Daughter of Light, that reigns as Queen of Heaven,
all praise and honor we joyfully give unto You.
Give us to learn that You are by us in every act we make.
Teach us obedience and humility and joy of heart that comes of self-forgetting.
Help us to be clear mirrors of Your Love; reflecting all the beauty of the world;
for beauty is the echo of Eternity.
Fix our hearts on the Eternal and let us not be turned from You by transient things.
Rescue us from the hands of darkness that we may serve You with all our being,
here and in Your bright Eternity.
